Sustainable mobility in business: how to develop it?
September 20, 2024
Transport is an important activity within a company: employee travel between home and work, business travel, etc. However, this mobility leads to significant greenhouse gas emissions. In order to reduce your company's carbon footprint and comply with the law, Enerlis presents sustainable business mobility solutions.
What do we mean by sustainable mobility?
Sustainable mobility or eco -mobility refers to the movement of people via modes of transport:
- clean and energy efficient such as vehicles running on renewable energies (electric, hydrogen, NGV);
- accessible to the greatest number of people, such as public transport or carpooling ( soft mobility );
- which can be drivers of attractiveness .
In business, sustainable mobility can be applied at several levels:
- commuting for employees : public transport, parking;
- organization of work: hours, teleworking;
- business travel : meetings, deliveries.
What are the obligations of companies in terms of sustainable mobility?
Certain companies are required by the LOM law and the climate and resilience law to develop sustainable mobility.
Why such measures in terms of sustainable mobility?
Transport is the sector that emits the most greenhouse gases (GHG) in France: in 2022, it is responsible for 32% of total emissions. These carbon emissions are essentially linked to the combustion of fossil fuels private : the latter in fact represent 84% of domestic passenger transport. Finally, 74% of people use a private car every day as a mode of transport to go to work.
It is in this context that the government has put in place regulations intended to encourage the reduction of the carbon footprint of the transport sector.
LOM law and sustainable mobility in business
The Mobility Orientation Law (LOM) was promulgated in 2019 . cheaper, less polluting and even more accessible modes of daily transport in France
Among the key measures of the LOM law, we can cite the implementation of the sustainable mobility package , i.e. contribution to financing employee travel by carpooling or bicycle.
Climate and resilience and sustainable mobility law
Furthermore, the climate and resilience law adopted in 2021 strengthens the LOM law with its mobility component. It is, for example, to it that we owe the establishment of the zero-interest loan for the acquisition of a low-cost vehicle. pollutant in a low emissions mobility zone ( ZFE-m ).
Annual negotiation
Finally, companies with union delegates and 50 employees employed on the same site are required by law to initiate annual negotiations (NAO) on the quality of life at work (QVT) which includes mobility issues. sustainable.
Why develop sustainable mobility in your company?
Here are three good reasons to develop sustainable mobility in your company.
Comply with the law
First of all, for some companies, the development of sustainable mobility is a obligation . By implementing solutions to decarbonize your transport activities, you comply with the law.
Ecological transition and sustainable mobility in business
According to Ademe, “ 94% of GHG emissions can be avoided by replacing a thermal vehicle with an electric vehicle.” Sustainable mobility is therefore synonymous with industrial or tertiary decarbonization and acceleration of your energy transition.
Employer brand and sustainable mobility
Finally, as we said above, sustainable mobility is a driver of attractiveness . By implementing virtuous means of transport, you strengthen your employer brand and improve the quality of life at work by limiting the discomfort associated with journeys.
What sustainable mobility solutions for businesses?
Here are two examples of sustainable mobility solutions to adopt in your business.
Equip your car parks with electric charging stations
The installation of charging stations for electric cars and electric bicycles is an interesting and mandatory sustainable mobility solution for many companies.
Companies equipped with a parking lot of more than 10 spaces are required by law to pre-equip their parking spaces with a view to installing charging stations for electric cars or electric bicycles.
existing buildings with parking for more than 10 spaces must install a charging point by January 1, 2025 as well as an additional charging point every 20 spaces.
new buildings or buildings under construction with parking for more than 10 spaces, at least 1 in 5 spaces must be pre-equipped.
Good to know: small and medium-sized businesses ( SMEs ) as well as companies whose connection is greater than 7% of the total renovation cost are not affected by this obligation.
Enerlis supports in your sustainable mobility project! Our experts help you install charging stations in your business to comply with the law and reduce your carbon footprint.
Develop your vehicle fleet towards sustainable mobility
Another effective solution to initiate sustainable mobility in your company: invest in a fleet of vehicles running on renewable energies. It is also an obligation for certain companies.
Thus, companies with a fleet of more than 100 vehicles whose total authorized weight is equal to or less than 3.5 tonnes must include a proportion of
vehicles with low greenhouse gas and air pollutant emissions
(50 gCO2/km – Article D224-15-11 of the environmental code) upon renewal
of their park.
The proportion of clean vehicles to be included in its fleet changes over time:
- 10 % from January 1, 2022;
- 20% from January 1, 2024,
- 40% from January 1, 2027,
- 70% from January 1, 2030.
There are measures to help you financially renew your fleet:
- the ecological bonus : up to 3,000 euros in aid for the purchase of a new electric van, up to 900 euros in aid for the purchase of a new electric 2, 3 or 4 wheeler, up to 1000 euros in aid for the purchase of an electric cargo bike
- the conversion bonus : assistance with the purchase or rental for at least two years of a new or used electric vehicle, in exchange for the scrapping of a Crit'Air 3 or older vehicle.
How to implement a sustainable mobility strategy for your company?
Developing sustainable mobility in your company is an ambitious project. Although it is possible to do this internally by appointing a representative , it is recommended to call on an energy efficiency professional .
Employer mobility plan
If the company wishes to manage the sustainable mobility project internally , it involves creating an employer mobility plan.
In other words, a strategy or roadmap that includes:
- an inventory of the company's current mobility;
- a financing ;
- a list of concrete actions to put in place;
- an action planning calendar
- an action monitoring
- communication plan with stakeholders (employees, partners, etc.).
Carbon footprint and sustainable mobility
Do you prefer to delegate the sustainable mobility project to an expert? This is an opportunity to carry out a report on greenhouse gas emissions (BEGES) within your company!
This is a diagnosis that makes it possible to identify emissions and propose alternatives .
In the context of sustainable mobility, different criteria can be studied such as:
- the number of trips and km traveled;
- related carbon dioxide emissions ;
- financial impacts .
Enerlis is certified to carry out carbon assessments in accordance with the Ademe and improve your carbon trajectory . Contact us to find out more about our offer.
All you have to do is deploy the recommended sustainable mobility solutions adapted to your business! As a reminder, Enerlis supports you in the installation of charging stations within your company.
